Entrance Guide

Here are several ways how you can pursue studying Clothing Technology at the University of the Philippines - Diliman. You must fulfill the following:

I. UPCAT - University of the Philippines College Admission Test

High School or Secondary students enrolled in any Philippine High School will be able to get into the BS Clothing Technology Program of the University of the Philippines through the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT). In the application form, you should indicate that you are applying for the BS Clothing Technology program.

When you pass the UPCAT and you chose the program, you already have the option to enroll into this program. Just make sure that you complete all your requirements when you visit the University on your scheduled enrollment day.

II. Shifting Students

If you are already a UP Student enrolled in the UPDiliman campus, you may apply to shift into the BS Clothing Technology program. In order to do so, you must fulfill the following:

  1. You have to make sure that you have incurred the minimum number of units that will allow you to shift into the BS Clothing Technology program.
  2. Your General Weighted Average (GWA) should be high enough since you are competing with a lot of UP students from UPDiliman who would also like to shift into the BS Clothing Technology Program.
  3. You must meet all the requirements set by the Office of University Registrar (OUR) and the Department of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design (CTID)
  4. You must take the Talent Test given by the CTID
  5. You must take the Written Exam given by the CTID
  6. You must undergo the Formal Interview given by the CTID
  7. The application process starts on the first week of May, so make sure that you have prepared all your requirements by then.
  8. Go through the 3 Stage Screening:
  • Talent Test - You will have to render fashion illustration during the Talent Test. So practice proportion, stances and garment details. Try to refresh your knowledge on fashion design.
  • Written Exam - You will be asked to answer a couple of questions in essay form. Questions may vary from your interest in fashion, your familiarity with what is done in Clothing Technology, and how it is relevant to the Filipinos and society in general.
  • Interview - You will undergo a one-on-one interview. This is crucial, because this is where you get to meet the people who will decide on your application. You will be asked more about yourself and why you decided to take up Clothing Technology. Through the interview, they will see your degree of intent to study Clothing Technology. You may not do well in one of the first two stages, but if they see at the interview your dedication to the and how much you want this course, they may consider you to be included in the list of applicants who will be given slots into the program. So talk about yourself, your strengths that are relevant to Clothing Technology, how you could be an asset to the University and the program, and your passion for the study of the entire Fashion Industry - from design to production to retail.

History

The Department of Clothing, Textiles & Interior Design (CTID), formerly known as the Department of Clothing, Textiles & Related Arts (CTRA), started as one of the four Departments established under the U.P. College of Home Economics (CHE) in 1961. The current academic programs under the CTID Department are the Bachelor of Science in Clothing Technology (BSCT), Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BSID) and Master of Interior Design (MID).

The Bachelor of Science in Clothing Technology (BSCT) evolved from the Bachelor of Science in Home Economics major in Clothing, Home Furnishings and Craft Merchandising created in 1965 while the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design originated from the Bachelor of Science in Home Economics major in Interior Design in 1968. The Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) was established in 1973 as a joint program between the College of Home Economics and the College of Architecture. The BS Clothing Technology program was implemented in 1975. The year 2000 marked the change of name of the Department from the Department of Clothing, Textiles & Related Arts (CTRA) to the Department of Clothing, Textiles & Interior Design (CTID).

The CTID Department manages the CHE Costume Museum that houses a costume collection which numbers to more than one thousand (1000) pieces of rare historic Filipino costume and accessories (shoes, bags, belts, veils, hats, etc.). It has been considered as superior to other museum collections in terms of relevance to historic development of styles. The museum has become a research laboratory center for BSCT students (part of the laboratory hours of CT 25 require lab work in the museum).
