Project Runway Philippines Season 2 Soon!

Project Runway Philippines is ready to give you another season of delicious episodes filled with more innovative challenges, more exciting guests and a more talented group of brash, new designers. Expect to be glued to your TV screens as the season unfolds and reveals who’s poised to take the Philippine fashion community by storm with their unique vision and design supremacy.

Returning to spearhead the show is a powerhouse cast consisting of host and international model Teresa Herrera, fashion designer Rajo Laurel and supermodel Apples Aberin as judges, and fashion designer Jojie Lloren, who will serve as mentor to the contestants throughout their journey to Philippine Fashion Week.

Designers will be given challenges that will test their skills and allow them to present their design philosophies. Each week, one designer will be eliminated until it’s down to three contestants. The Final 3 will each be given a chance to showcase a collection at Philippine Fashion Week, where the judges will declare who has the best collection and is the winner of Project Runway Philippines. The ultimate designer will receive P500,000 in cash, an editorial spread in Preview Magazine, sewing machines from Brother International, a designer package from Mannequin Inc., and a summer scholarship package from School of Fashion and the Arts' European Partner school, Instituto Marangoni.

But is Season 2’s batch of designers ready for the rigors of reality TV? This competition may prove to be a baptism of fire for the many different personalities and stories converging on the runway.

What makes Project Runway Philippines unique—and very Filipino—are the deep friendships formed and the designers’ self-realizations as they travel the challenging road to Philippine Fashion Week. The show is not about the separate journeys of each designer; it’s about design excellence. This is what sets it apart from other editions around the world.

However, only one designer will be the winner of Project Runway Philippines. Who will it be? Find out as the season begins this August. Watch the season premiere on August 12, 2009 at 10 pm on ETC (SBN 21, Sky Cable – Ch. 16, Global Destiny – Ch. 30, Cable Link – Ch. 48 and Smart myTV).

June Article
by Tin Iglesias

Many people deem in the cliché "Do not judge a book by its cover": But why not? Generally, clothing plays a pivotal role in first impressions. Through the personal profile activity, I gained knowledge on the significance of clothing in creating first impressions and identifying the wearer with a particular group or lifestyle. Diverse styles and brands of clothing can be correlated to different cliques of people. It seems that the stereotypes associated to the cliques or groups, have become a pigeonhole of the clothing. Styles shifting from preppy to droopy, to punk and tight, can be found all over the place and stereotypes have found their way into just about every style of clothing worn. Once exploring this concept, one may have a question as to whether or not this is vigorous and if our society can function this way with all the exertion and distinction already put on clothes. Stereotypes can limit and confuse people, nevertheless I think it's merely a value, and perhaps by each person taking on a stereotype it adds a slight variety.

I have also learned that one's life expectations are masqueraded though the clothing they wear. How people dress give intuitiveness into the person’s aspirations beneath without spoken words. Furthermore, the lecture emphasized that the society recognizes the role of clothing as a styling mantra; otherwise a communicator of information during social interaction and as an aid in the enterprise of self-identity. I firmly believe that as a person builds self-identity, self-esteem and use of clothing to affect its augmentation become imperative aspects of his or her development.

Not only did the activity teach me about the importance of clothing, I was able to gain a new friend in class as well! Over the years, I have come across a few getting-to-know-you activities that I really take pleasure in; including the personal profile activity, which was an exceptional and amusing way of looking at the social and psychological aspects of wearing clothes. It elevated respect for my partner and I, sparked friendship, encouraged participation and allowed us to see things that we have in common. :)

GREEN FOR GREEN::
Companies in China, India, Bangladesh and Taiwan are cashing in on the global trend toward using more green-friendly textiles

AFP, PARIS
Monday, Feb 16, 2009, Page 5
Green-friendly fabrics may be expensive, but increasing consumer demand for the environmentally correct is now forcing Asia’s textile giants to go the extra mile to produce clean cloth.
In a sign of the times, at Paris’ twice-yearly Texworld textile trade fair this week, around 60 of the 660 firms exhibiting from around the world flew the green flag, a sharp increase on previous sessions, organizers said.
